NAMIT ARORA, the founder of Shunya, is a travel photographer, writer, and Internet technologist. He was raised in India in the cow-belt city of Gwalior, famous for its imposing fort and the first epigraphic evidence of zero. His training at the Indian Institute of Technology in Bengal led him to Louisiana for graduate school, precipitating his great escape to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he has since worked at three failed startups and three big corporations.

At least his profession has afforded him opportunities to live, work, or play in scores of countries. During a two-year break, he created an extensive photojournal on India. His writing has appeared in sundry publications and he has recently finished his first novel (see some books he recommends). In Jan 2009, he began writing a monthly column for 3QuarksDaily.
